Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will have a phone conversation with US presidential candidate Donald Trump. This will be the first time since Trump’s previous presidential term ended in 2021, Hromadske reports.
This was reported by CNN and Reuters, citing sources.
According to the publications, discussions have been going on for some time about the appropriate time for a phone call between Trump and Zelenskyy. However, their schedules often shift.
The conversation between the two will take place amid concerns about Trump’s policy on the war in Ukraine if he wins the presidential election in November.
It is also known that Trump has not publicly disclosed his plans for Ukraine, although he has repeatedly claimed that he would end the war if re-elected.
On June 28, during a debate with Joe Biden, he called Putin’s demands for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the occupied regions and Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO “unacceptable.”
Earlier, Reuters wrote that Trump’s advisers presented a plan according to which, if re-elected, he would provide Ukraine with additional military assistance only if Kyiv agrees to negotiate with Moscow. In addition, the US presidential candidate stated that he would stop financial assistance to Ukraine.
Trump also chose Ohio Senator James David Vance, who opposed military aid to Ukraine, as his vice presidential candidate.
