US presidential candidate Donald Trump has announced his vice presidential candidate. It is Ohio Senator James David Vance, who opposed military aid to Ukraine, Hromadske informs.

After much thought, and given the extraordinary talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to serve as Vice President of the United States is Senator James David Vance, – Trump said.
According to Trump, during the campaign, Vance will focus on the people “for whom he has fought so brilliantly – American workers and farmers”.
What do we know about Vance?
He served in the Marine Corps, including during the Iraq War, and worked as a lawyer. He used to be an opponent of Donald Trump, but has turned into a supporter.
The Republican senator supported the idea that Ukraine should cede some territory to start negotiations with Russia and end the war. In addition, in the winter, he was among the opponents of US aid to Ukraine, demanding a stricter US border policy.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was responding to Vance’s statements about defense support for Kyiv. He said he was not sure whether the American politician “understands what is happening here (in Ukraine – ed.)”, the Hill quoted him as saying.
To understand it is to go to the front lines to see what’s going on, to talk to the people, and then to go to the civilians to understand what would happen to them [without this support]. And he will realize that millions will be killed, – Zelenskyy said.
In addition, in April 2023, he and 18 other representatives of the US Republican Party signed a letter to US President Joe Biden stating that “unlimited US assistance to Ukraine should be terminated” .
