Zelenskyy to address government meeting in the UK

19.07.2024

On July 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address an extraordinary meeting of the United Kingdom government, Suspilne reports.

This is stated on the website of the British government.

The Ukrainian president will be the first foreign guest at 10 Downing Street since the election of Keir Starmer as the new British prime minister. Zelenskyy is also the first foreign leader to attend a British government meeting since US President Bill Clinton in 1997.

Ukraine is and always will be at the heart of my government’s agenda, so it is fitting that President Zelenskyy will make a historic address to my cabinet, – Keir Starmer said.

Zelenskyy is expected to brief ministers on the situation in Ukraine, the need to build up Europe’s defense industrial base, and the terms of a £3.5 billion credit line for military exports.

Russia’s gradual advance on the battlefield is nothing compared to the collective international support for Ukraine or the strength of the ties between our peoples, – Starmer emphasized.

Zelenskyy’s visit to the UK

Earlier, the British newspaper The Guardian reported on the Ukrainian president’s trip to the UK. It said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was to address European leaders at Blenheim Palace.

Zelenskyy announced the official visit on July 18, when he arrived in Britain and was met by Ukrainian Ambassador Zaluzhnyi.

The President of Ukraine also spoke during the inaugural plenary session of the Fourth Summit of the European Political Community. He emphasized that missiles and drones are not “bearers of state sovereignty”, so a collective will is needed to shoot them down.
