Ukraine signs security agreements with the Czech Republic and Slovenia

19.07.2024

Ukraine has signed a security guarantee agreement with two more European countries. These are the Czech Republic and Slovenia, Hromadske reports.

This became known from the website of the Presidential Office, which published the texts of both agreements.

The agreement that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala states that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Czech Republic has provided Ukraine with military assistance worth about 400 million euros. Prague will continue to maintain the same dynamics during the 10 years of the document’s validity.

In addition, the countries will continue to jointly train about 4,000 Ukrainian defenders annually – this year and in the future within the framework of the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM).

At the same time, the agreement established the Czech Republic’s partnership with the city of Dnipro and Dnipro region for recovery and reconstruction. Also, the Czech Republic will “take steps” to open a diplomatic mission in Dnipro to strengthen cooperation and assistance.

Meanwhile, Slovenia has also pledged to maintain the level of support throughout the ten-year agreement with Ukraine and to facilitate the implementation of Ukrainian defense industry projects within the EU Mission.

In particular, Slovenia will allocate an additional EUR 5 million for humanitarian aid, economic recovery, and the humanitarian program “Grain from Ukraine.”

Both countries also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine on its path to future EU and NATO membership.
