The SOF reported the attacks on social media on May 12. According to the statement, Ukrainian forces carried out the strikes before May 5. The targets included Russian ammunition depots, logistics hubs, repair bases, and command infrastructure in occupied parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Ukrainian forces also attacked Russian military facilities in Russia’s Belgorod region.

The SOF said the destruction of Russian arsenals, repair bases, warehouses, and logistics weakens Russia’s combat capabilities. The military added that it continues asymmetric operations aimed at strategically exhausting Russia.

About Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces are a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They include special operations units, resistance movement forces, and psychological operations units. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry describes them as professionals of the impossible.

SOF units often operate deep behind Russian lines by land, sea, and air. They prepare the ground for future military operations aimed at liberating Ukrainian territories from Russian occupation.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, SOF troops have participated in some of the war’s key battles and operations. These include the Battle of Kyiv, the defense of Chernihiv and Sumy regions, the liberation of Snake Island in the Black Sea, the Kharkiv counteroffensive, the liberation of Kherson, and the battle for Bakhmut.

SOF soldiers use advanced equipment and modern technologies during operations. Candidates from other military branches must complete a selection process and pass a Qualification Course to join the force. The course is based on the training program used by U.S. Special Operations Forces.

Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that Russia launched a massive drone attack against Ukraine overnight on May 12. Explosions were reported in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv, and Zhytomyr regions. In total, Russia launched more than 200 drones.
