Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Brussels has decided to defeat Russia in Ukraine and is preparing the continent for a major war by 2030. During a speech on February 14, he emphasized that the upcoming April elections will be the last before the conflict begins. The politician assured that Hungary will not send weapons, money, or its soldiers to the Ukrainian front.

The CNN media outlet reported this, quoting the Hungarian leader’s annual assessment. Orbán claims that Ukraine only “swallows money” without any chance of defeating a nuclear power. In his view, European countries are already sending instructions to their populations on what to do in case of war.
“Brussels has decided to defeat the Russians in Ukraine, and outside Hungary, war is being prepared everywhere in Europe,” the Prime Minister underlined.
He also introduced the term “Putining,” calling the practice of framing Russia as a threat “primitive and unserious.”
Brussels as the main threat to sovereignty
Orbán declared the European Union, rather than Russia, the real danger to Hungary. He accused Brussels of creating a “repressive machine” operating through bought journalists, judges, and NGOs. The Prime Minister promised to “clean up” the country from foreign agents after the elections. The politician also criticized his rivals from the Tisza Party, calling them puppets of global corporations like Shell and ERSTE Bank.
Despite promises of significant economic recovery, Hungary’s GDP growth in 2025 was only 0.3%. However, Orbán emphasized the importance of introducing new social welfare measures. These measures will be funded by special taxes on big business. He urged supporters to look at Brussels with fear rather than the East, as he considers the European Commission’s actions a direct threat to national freedom.
Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that Viktor Orbán accused Brussels and Kyiv of effectively “declaring war”on Budapest due to plans for Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU.
