28.02.2026

Israel and the United States launched a massive preemptive military operation against Iran on the morning of February 28. Dozens of explosions rocked the capital city of Tehran, prompting Iranian authorities to close the country’s airspace indefinitely. Early reports indicate that the strikes targeted military infrastructure, the presidential residence, and intelligence headquarters.

The Jerusalem Post reported that eyewitnesses confirmed multiple blasts across the Iranian capital. The operation was coordinated with Washington to neutralize imminent security threats. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a nationwide state of emergency. He emphasized that the preemptive strike was a necessary measure to ensure national security and eliminate immediate dangers.

US aircraft involved in the operation carried out dozens of strikes against the Iranian “war machine.” According to The Times of Israel, this attack is significantly broader than previous military encounters. US President Donald Trump officially confirmed the start of combat operations. He stated that the objective is to completely destroy Iran’s missile industry and the regime’s naval forces.

Trump called the Iranian regime “a vicious group of very hard, terrible people.”

“Their menacing activities directly endanger the US, our troops, our bases overseas, and our allies throughout the world,” the US President stated.

Scope of the attack and Tehran’s response

Iranian state media confirmed strikes on critical decision-making centers in Tehran. Specifically, missiles struck areas near the compound of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the Ministry of Defense.  Massive cyberattacks temporarily paralyzed several state news agencies across the country. Meanwhile, Iranian officials announced they are preparing a “crushing response” to the actions of the allies.

In Israel, the Home Front Command urged citizens to remain near shelters due to the high probability of retaliatory rocket attacks. Educational activities and non-essential businesses have been suspended nationwide. The IDF is currently mobilizing reserve forces to reinforce the borders with Lebanon and enhance security in the West Bank.

Trump’s statements

Donald Trump also called on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to lay down their arms.

He stated that those who surrender will be treated fairly with total immunity. Otherwise, the Iranian military forces face certain death. The White House emphasized that this terrorist regime will never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon.

Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that Washington demanded Tehran sign an indefinite nuclear deal to prevent a large-scale military conflict.
