Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes Ukraine can achieve peace in the Russian-Ukrainian war by November. Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov is convinced that the United States will remain Ukraine’s ally.
Zelenskyy on peace
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine could achieve peace before the US midterm elections in November. He made the statement in an interview with Sky News.
Zelenskyy claimed that the United States has the power to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. He said Washington should increase pressure on the Kremlin. Stronger pressure would force Russia to take negotiations seriously, he added.
“The United States even more stronger than they think about themselves. And I think so really. And they really have pressure on Putin. They can stop this war,” Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that the coming months will be decisive. According to his words, Ukraine has a real chance to end the war before autumn. That window could close after the important and influential elections in the United States.
“Now I think that we have a chance. Between us, what I really think about next year… it depends on these months, if we will have a chance to finish the war before autumn. Before elections, important, influential, elections in the United States. If it will be possible to achieve a peace, we will have, now we have this window,” Zelenskyy said.
He repeated that he is ready to meet Vladimir Putin to secure peace. He also called on Washington to supply Ukraine with more advanced weapons.
Budanov on the US and elections in Ukraine
Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov said the United States will remain Ukraine’s ally regardless of who serves as president. He made the remarks in an interview with the Lebanese news portal Al-Moudoun.
“Donald Trump continues the fundamental approach of American policy aimed at establishing peace and ending aggression. We are grateful to him for his efforts, which made it possible to start peace talks. I am confident that this approach will be strengthened in the future,” Budanov said.
Budanov expressed confidence that allies will continue to support Ukraine. He said Ukraine acts as a shield for Europe because it defends the continent from Russia’s aggressive imperial ambitions.
“Therefore, their investments in Ukraine are investments in their own security,” he said.
Budanov added that it is inappropriate to discuss presidential elections in Ukraine now. The priority is to build an effective negotiation process.
Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that Donald Trump wants to end the war in Ukraine within a month. He said this during a phone call with Zelenskyy on February 25.
