US President Donald Trump stated his desire to end the war in Ukraine within a month during a phone call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The 30-minute conversation took place on February 25 and focused on accelerating the peace process. This dialogue marked the first direct communication between the two leaders since their meeting in Davos last January.

Axios reported these details, citing sources familiar with the matter. The call was described as friendly and positive. President Zelenskyy thanked Donald Trump for the provided assistance. Furthermore, Zelenskyy noted that only the US President possesses enough influence to force Vladimir Putin to stop the war.
The leaders specifically discussed the timeline for ending the full-scale Russian invasion.
“Zelenskyy then said he hoped the war would end this year, and Trump replied that the war had been going on too long and he would like it to end in a month,” according to one of Axios’ sources.
Diplomatic steps and Geneva meetings
Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, also participated in the phone call. They are scheduled to meet with the Ukrainian delegation in Geneva. The Ukrainian team is led by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov. The parties intend to discuss the possibility of holding a trilateral summit of leaders soon.
Reports suggest that Russian representative Kirill Dmitriev might also be in Geneva for separate discussions. His presence indicates potential indirect communication between Washington and Moscow regarding the conflict. These diplomatic movements occurred shortly after the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported on the escalating threats to international order. President Zelenskyy stated that Vladimir Putin has already launched World War III. He also proposed specific strategies to stop the Russian aggression and defined the criteria for Ukraine’s victory in the war against Russia.
