Zelenskyy in Yerevan: Air Defense, PURL Program, and Peace Talks

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with leaders of the Washington Format during the European Political Community summit in Yerevan. The meeting focused on strengthening air defense, funding the PURL defense program, and diplomatic efforts to end the war. Additionally, the parties discussed the protection of the Ukrainian energy sector before the winter period.

President Zelenskyy reported this on his official Telegram channel.

Leaders from France, the UK, Italy, Norway, Poland, Finland, and Canada attended the meeting along with EU and NATO representatives. They discussed the production of European air defense systems and missiles in detail. Mark Rutte confirmed that the delivery of anti-ballistic missiles continues according to previous agreements.

The parties paid special attention to the PURL program, which facilitates arms procurement. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced an additional contribution of 200 million dollars. In total, Canada has already provided over 830 million dollars to this initiative. This support will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Diplomatic efforts and European integration

The President noted the impact of the international situation on the peace process.

“Due to the war in Iran, there is now an obvious pause in negotiations. We discussed how to intensify this process, contacts with America, and Europe’s role in it. We also talked about the situation at the front. All partners must note that Ukraine’s positions are now significantly stronger. I am grateful to our warriors,” the Head of State said.

Negotiations regarding financial support were a crucial part of the visit. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Antonio Costa for unblocking the 90 billion euro aid package.

“I thank Antonio for his support and personal efforts in unblocking the €90 billion financial support package. It is important that the funds start arriving as soon as possible to help Ukraine prepare for winter,” the President emphasized.

Ukraine is also preparing to open all six negotiation clusters for EU membership. Zelenskyy discussed this with Robert Fico, who confirmed Slovakia’s support for Kyiv’s European integration. The leaders agreed to hold an intergovernmental commission meeting soon.

During talks with Donald Tusk, the parties focused on diplomatic steps toward a just peace and preparations for the next round of trilateral meetings. Additionally, the politicians reviewed the work of the International Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery.
