The Romanian parliament has supported President Klaus Iohannis’ decision to establish a training center in Romania to train Ukrainian marines. 233 deputies voted in favor, 18 voted against, and 25 abstained, Babel writes.
This was reported by the Romanian news agency Agerpres.
In a letter to the deputies, the president wrote that the continuation of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine has actualized the need to strengthen and diversify the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And after analyzing the situation, it turned out that Romania could contribute to the Maritime Capabilities Coalition by hosting a maritime training center and training Ukrainian marines.
It is known that the training center will operate for two years. The United Kingdom will provide financial and organizational support for its activities in the early stages.
The parliamentarians also approved another appeal by Klaus Iohannis to them – on the participation of the Romanian army in the NATO Security Assistance and Training Mission for Ukraine (NSATU).
Romania will provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment to make the Logistics Support Hub – Romania operational at the 71st Air Base “Kimpia Turzii”. The Romanian Armed Forces will also provide one hundred military personnel for the mission.
