Ukrainian Forces Strike Strategic Russian Refinery and Oil Port

05.04.2026

Ukrainian drones successfully attacked the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery and the Primorsk port on the night of April 5. The strikes caused large-scale fires at these critical energy infrastructure facilities in Russia. The operation was carried out by the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces.

Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, reported the mission, and the General Staff of the AFU later confirmed the details. The targeted refinery in Kstovo is strategically vital. It supplies nearly 30% of the gasoline consumed in the Moscow region. The facility’s annual production capacity reaches 17 million tons.

Beyond the civilian sector, the plant produces aviation and diesel fuel directly for the Russian military-industrial complex. Simultaneously, strikes hit the Primorsk port on the Baltic Sea. This is one of Russia’s largest hubs for transporting oil products. Additionally, Ukrainian forces struck an aviation equipment warehouse in occupied Crimea.

Disrupting the Aggressor’s Logistics

Ukraine systematically targets the enemy’s oil and gas industry. These actions undermine Russia’s economic and military potential. The Primorsk port and the Kstovo refinery are critical links in the invaders’ supply chain. Previous successful strikes have already caused a significant drop in maritime shipping volumes and fuel production in Russia.

In March, Russian terminals faced multiple attacks. These events resulted in heavy losses for the Russian budget. Bloomberg analysts note that such AFU actions significantly complicate the financing of the full-scale war. Russian air defenses have proven unable to protect strategic enterprises even hundreds of kilometers from the border.

Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that Ukraine struck the Alchevsk steel plant and Russian fuel trains.
