Ukraine will discuss with NATO the creation of a coalition of neighboring states to help shoot down Russian missiles over Ukrainian territory. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed diplomats to discuss this within the Ukraine-NATO Council, Babel reports.
Zelenskyy said this during a conversation with journalists, Interfax-Ukraine and Radio Svoboda report.
We need to work on the technical capability to use combat aircraft of neighboring countries against [Russian] missiles that hit Ukraine in the direction of our neighbors. First of all, NATO countries, – Zelenskyy said.
This decision, in his opinion, is difficult for partners, as “they are always afraid of unnecessary escalation.” However, the president instructed to prepare a meeting within the NATO-Ukraine Council to discuss this issue.
I want to try this tool so that NATO countries can discuss with Ukraine the possibility of such a small coalition of neighboring countries that will shoot down enemy missiles [over Ukraine], – Zelenskyy added.
According to him, such a coalition is sorely lacking now, because it is a great responsibility for one neighboring country to take responsibility and help Ukraine shoot down enemy missiles.
