Ukraine offers assistance to countries affected by floods

Ukraine has offered to help Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic overcome the consequences of the floods. A unit of the State Emergency Service will be sent to Poland, Suspilne reports.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha.

Ukraine stands in solidarity with its neighbors who are suffering from devastating floods. On the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and under the coordination of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, we invited Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic to send units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine to help overcome the disaster, – he wrote in X.

The minister also expressed his condolences over the loss of life and destruction caused by the floods in Central Europe.

Our thoughts are with all the affected communities. We wish our neighbors to overcome this natural disaster as soon as possible, – Sybiha wrote.

Also, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Olena Kondratyuk said that Ukraine would send SES units to Poland to help overcome the consequences of the floods.

Our rescuers have considerable experience in this field. We have to help our neighbors in their time of need. Just like Poland took it upon itself to rescue Ukrainians with an open heart in the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, – she said.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk also announced that Ukraine would send aid to Poland.

Ukraine stands in solidarity with Poland and is ready to immediately send one hundred rescuers equipped with special equipment to fight the flood, – he wrote on Facebook.

Recently, Cyclone Boris has spread across Europe, with strong winds and heavy rains in parts of Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia. In Poland, floods have destroyed dams and bridges and flooded cities in the south of the country. Evacuations are underway. So far, two victims of the disaster have been reported. A state of natural disaster has been declared in the regions affected by the flood.

In Romania, at least 5 people have been reported dead due to flooding. In Prague, the entrance to the embankment was blocked.

Due to the floods in Poland and the Czech Republic, railroad operators in both countries have temporarily canceled a number of flights.
