Turkey proposes peace talks with Ukraine’s interests in mind

Turkey wants the war in Ukraine to end as soon as possible. To do this, it proposes to use peace talks taking into account the interests of Ukraine, Suspilne reports.

This was stated by Director General for International Security of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Basat Ozturk.

According to the Voice of America, Ozturk noted that Turkey “does not hesitate” to support Ukraine because it is “a neighbor, a historically brotherly, sisterly country”. At the same time, he emphasized that the support is not only due to the issue of Crimean Tatars.

We consider the entire Ukrainian people to be our sisters and brothers as well, and that’s why I really support them with all my heart, – the Turkish Foreign Ministry representative said.

According to him, Turkey does not want to prolong the Russian-Ukrainian war. However, he emphasized that this does not mean that Ukraine should give up.

No war lasts forever. In the context of the conclusion of the peace of this war, there must also be, of course, respect for the legitimate and legitimate interests of the Ukrainian people, – Ozturk said.

In June, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was ready to start peace talks with Russia at any time, provided that Russian troops withdraw from Ukraine’s borders.

On September 8, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Lytvynenko said that Russia was not ready for substantive negotiations on peace in Ukraine, and that it was possible to discuss with Russians only from a position of strength.
