30.07.2024

Ukraine has invited China to take part in at least interim meetings before the second peace summit, which will take place soon, Radiosvoboda reports.

This was stated by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhyi, during a briefing in Kyiv on July 30.

According to him, during the visit of Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to China, “the logic of Ukraine’s actions after the first peace summit was discussed in detail.”

We explained in detail how we will move towards the second summit, and invited China to participate at least in the interim meetings that will take place now, just as we invite all peace-loving countries that respect the UN Charter to participate in these interim meetings, – the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

The Chinese side has yet to announce whether it will join the interim meetings.

We can say that they have carefully considered this proposal, but I will stop here for now, and we will not announce further, we will see how the situation develops further, – the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

At the same time, Tykhyi said, Ukraine has invited Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to visit Ukraine.

We have issued an invitation and are ready to welcome Minister Wang Yi to Ukraine so that he can see with his own eyes the consequences of Russian aggression against our country. We are also ready to hold deeper bilateral talks with him on a number of bilateral regional international issues. And I am confident that the dialogue between Ukraine and China will continue at all levels, – the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

According to him, the dialogue between the two countries has significantly intensified and has been developing dynamically since the beginning of 2024. Heorhii Tykhyi also emphasized that “it is very important that Kyiv and Beijing have a direct dialogue, especially on peace issues”.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry does not specify when such a visit might take place. However, they add that “China is interested in the proposal,” but “we will see when the conditions are right for the visit to take place”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that Dmytro Kuleba’s trip to China brought a potential meeting at the level of heads of state closer.

Working on a meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and China is a constant work in progress. Did Minister Kuleba’s visit to China bring a potential meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and China closer? Undoubtedly, it did. But when such a meeting takes place, when this agreement is reached, it is too early to say, let’s wait until we have some details, then we will get back to you with specific information, – said Heorhiy Tykhyi.

Recently, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba traveled to China, where he held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. According to him, the talks focused on ways to achieve a just peace in Ukraine.
