Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Guangzhou, China. The main topic of discussion was the search for ways to end Russian aggression, as well as China’s possible role in achieving a sustainable and just peace, Suspilne reports.
I am convinced that a just peace in Ukraine is in China’s strategic interests, and China’s role as a global force for peace is important. It is necessary to end the war against Ukraine, restore peace and accelerate the restoration of our country, – Kuleba said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister briefed Wang Yi on the results of the Summit in Switzerland. He also explained the logic of further steps in implementing the “Peace Formula” as a way to a just end to Russian aggression.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted that the head of the department proved Ukraine’s consistent position. It consists in the readiness to negotiate with the Russian side at a certain stage, when Russia is ready to negotiate in good faith. However, Kuleba noted that there is no such readiness on the part of Russia at the moment.
At the same time, the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website noted that Ukraine and China emphasized the need for a long-term vision and planning of relations between the two countries and the promotion of bilateral cooperation.
In addition, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called the full-scale war in Ukraine a “crisis” that has been going on for three years. He stated that China “has always been determined to promote a political solution to the crisis”.
Lately, the Russian and Ukrainian sides have been signaling their willingness to negotiate to varying degrees. Although the conditions and time are not yet ripe, we support all efforts that promote peace and are ready to continue to play a constructive role, – Wang Yi was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
According to Reuters, the talks between Dmytro Kuleba and Wang Yi lasted more than 3 hours.
