On July 1, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with President of the African state of Gambia Adama Barrow.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the X, Radiosvoboda reports.
He added that this is the first contact with this country at the highest level in 20 years.
I had a phone call with President Adama Barrow. I thanked him for The Gambia’s presence at the Peace Summit and for supporting the final communiqué. We discussed potential formats for interaction between Ukraine and Africa regarding the restoration of peace and ensuring food stability. It is important for us to remain one of the key guarantors of food security for Africa and the world, the post reads.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also added that Gambian students studied in Ukraine before the full-scale Russian invasion, so Ukraine is ready to welcome them back in safe regions and expand educational programs.
The Gambia is a country on the west coast of Africa. The country’s population as of 2006 was 1.47 million people.
Earlier, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had made the largest simultaneous wave of embassy openings in Africa. Ten new embassies were opened on the continent.
