Poland has started letting trucks from Ukraine through again

01.07.2024

Poland has managed to resolve the issue of border crossing by Ukrainian trucks. The Polish border and customs services will not require permits for bilateral transportation.

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Serhiy Derkach, Babel reports.

Now all Ukrainian trucks carrying out bilateral transportation can cross the border without obstacles again.

Traffic is resuming at the Shehyni-Medica, Nyzhankovychi – Malchovice, Uhryniv – Dolhobychuv, and Krakivets – Korchova checkpoints. It will resume at other checkpoints later.

The terms of the “transport visa-free regime” stipulate that all carriers, Ukrainian and foreign, must have a transportation license, cargo documents, documents confirming the type of transportation, documents for returning an empty truck, and a sticker on the truck’s windshield.

On July 1, the Polish side suspended the entry and exit of Ukrainian trucks at checkpoints that do not have an ECMT permit or book (a multilateral permit issued to a carrier that allows it to operate freely and travel freely in the territory of 44 countries participating in the European Conference of Ministers of Transport). However, the agreement on freight liberalization between Ukraine and the EU allows Ukrainian carriers to travel without bilateral transportation permits.

On June 20, Ukraine and the European Commission extended the “transport visa-free regime” for a year with the possibility of automatic prolongation until the end of 2025. This “visa-free regime” allows trucking from Ukraine to the EU without special permits.
