Kremlin says Putin ‘remains open’ to talks with Ukraine

Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov answered the question whether Moscow is ready for talks with Kyiv through intermediaries, Radiosvoboda reports.

President Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is open to any communication, any dialogue in order to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves. The president maintains this openness, he has said this repeatedly, – the Russian leader’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing on July 1.

On June 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a widely circulated interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer that Ukraine could hold peace talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin only through intermediaries, similar to the grain deal involving the UN and Turkey.

In addition, in the same interview, Zelenskyy said that the United States does not support extending Ukraine an invitation to join NATO today in order “not to irritate” Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a May 28 interview with the leading American magazine Time, when asked what the end of the war in Ukraine would look like, President Joe Biden said that “peace would look like a guarantee that Russia never occupies Ukraine”. But this, according to the American leader, does not mean Ukraine joining NATO.
