Ukraine and Germany have coordinated their defense cooperation priorities ahead of the next Ramstein-format Contact Group meeting scheduled for April 15. Both nations will focus on critically strengthening Ukrainian airspace and implementing innovative technologies on the battlefield.
Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov reported this following a conversation with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius.
The key areas of cooperation include a significant expansion of air defense capabilities and securing additional funding for drone production. Specifically, the sides focused on developing deep-strike and middle-strike unmanned aerial vehicles. The partnership also covers the creation of joint technological solutions and new formats for real-time combat data exchange. The ministers placed special emphasis on innovative projects involving laser technologies.
“Germany remains one of Ukraine’s key partners. I am grateful for the systematic support, especially during the winter, for the contribution to the ‘Czech initiative’ and the supply of PAC-3 missiles — this decision was of critical importance for the protection of the Ukrainian sky this winter,” Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized.
Defense Support Priorities
Germany currently stands as one of the largest donors of military aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine’s primary priority is scaling its air defense network to ensure sustainable protection for civilian and critical infrastructure. The partners aim to provide long-term solutions that allow Ukraine to maintain high-level airspace security independently.
In February 2026, following previous meetings, partners confirmed substantial funding for defense needs. Over $2.5 billion will be directed toward drone procurement and production, while $2 billion is allocated for strengthening air defense systems. Funding also covers artillery ammunition supplies and personnel training. Additionally, partners are financing the PURL initiative and the development of Ukraine’s naval capabilities.
