Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov says he sees progress in negotiations on a peace agreement with Russia. He also believes the sides could reach a deal relatively soon.

Bloomberg reports this.
Details
Budanov noted that despite limited public results, the sides continue to move toward a settlement. He said both Ukraine and Russia understand the need to end the war:
“Everyone understands that the war must end. That is why they hold talks. I do not think it will take much time,” the head of the Presidential Office said.
At the same time, he acknowledged that both sides still hold “maximalist” positions. However, he expects them to move closer as they search for a compromise.
Budanov also stressed that Russia has a financial incentive to end the war due to high costs. He declined to elaborate on possible territorial compromises but said the sides now better understand the limits of acceptable solutions.
The head of the Presidential Office also highlighted the role of the United States as a mediator. He mentioned a possible visit to Kyiv by White House representatives Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Context
After the latest round of talks in February 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said progress exists on the military track, while the political track has seen little movement so far.
He recently added that negotiations have not reached a deadlock, although logistical challenges remain regarding the venue.
Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that US President Donald Trump has shown decreasing interest in negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine due to the conflict with Iran.
