UK to allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles against Russia – Guardian

12.09.2024

The United Kingdom has decided to allow Ukraine to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles against military targets in Russia, Hromadske reports.

The Guardian informs this with reference to its own sources in the British government.

According to journalists, the decision was made in private, so it probably won’t be announced on September 13 during a meeting between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden.

The publication’s sources also claim that the joint visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Kyiv would not have taken place “if there had not been a positive decision on the Storm Shadow cruise missiles”.

In addition, the article says that British officials consider the public statement about the use of long-range missiles to strike Russia “overly provocative”.

The publication adds that after the authorization, there will still be restrictions “to avoid rash or unnecessary attacks”.

According to the Telegraph, the UK supports Ukraine’s desire to strike Russia with Storm Shadow missiles, but London does not state this publicly, as it fears a possible conflict with the US over this issue.
