US President Donald Trump issued a sharp critique of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz regarding Germany’s stance on the Iranian nuclear threat. The American leader advised the Chancellor to stop interfering in US diplomatic affairs and focus on ending the full-scale war in Ukraine. Trump emphasized that Germany’s previous efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict have been totally ineffective.

Donald Trump reported this on the Truth Social platform.
He stated that Germany should prioritize its own domestic challenges, specifically the energy crisis and immigration issues. According to Trump, US actions against Iran aim to make the world safer, which ultimately benefits Europe as well.
Diplomatic Tension
The conflict escalated following statements by Friedrich Merz suggesting that the United States is facing “humiliation” in negotiations with Iran. The German Chancellor noted that the White House lacks a clear exit strategy from the crisis, while the Iranian side expertly exploits the situation. Merz also expressed concern over the high financial costs Europe bears due to Middle East instability.
In response, Trump directly accused the German leadership of incompetence.
“The Chancellor of Germany should be spending more time on ending the Russia/Ukraine War (where he has been totally ineffective!),” the US President wrote.
He added that Berlin must first fix its own economy and energy sector before advising other nations on global security issues.
German political circles are expressing deep concern over this rhetoric from the American side. Experts point to a lack of a unified security strategy between the US and the EU, forcing Europe to develop independent mechanisms to protect its interests. However, official Berlin continues to emphasize the importance of transatlantic cooperation.
Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that Germany sees benefits in defence cooperation with Ukraine.
