U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Ukraine’s success is considered to be its transformation into a country that “can stand on its own two feet” militarily, economically, and democratically.
He said this during a conversation about US foreign policy at the Brookings Institution, Hromadske reports.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and the West see victory in the war with Russia differently.
For the West, the main victory is to prevent Russia from fully occupying Ukraine and to put [Russian President Vladimir] Putin in his place. But everyone is afraid that Russia will collapse. Everyone is afraid of a Russia without Putin, whether it will become even worse, – Zelenskyy said.
Commenting on this, Antony Blinken noted that for them, success is very obvious.
This is Ukraine, which is a strong, successful country, increasingly integrated with the West, and a country that can stand on its own two feet militarily, economically and democratically. And we have the policies in place to make that happen –
to make sure that’s what happens, – Antony added.
In addition, he noted that militarily, Ukraine is now dealing with Russian aggression, but there are many countries that continue to unite on the Ukrainian side and help.
Blinken emphasized that it is important that Ukraine develops the ability to deter and defend itself against aggression over the years.
The Secretary of State noted that the United States is trying to attract private sector investment in Ukraine to make sure that the Ukrainian economy can grow and prosper. And the fact that the European Union has opened up Ukraine’s accession process is the best guarantee that Ukraine will continue to make the necessary reforms to strengthen and deepen its democracy.
