NATO member states will step up assistance to Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said following a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council held in Brussels on August 28.
This was reported by Radiosvoboda.
Allies have confirmed today that they are increasing military assistance to Ukraine. We must continue to provide Ukraine with the equipment and ammunition it needs to defend itself against Russian invasion. This is vital to Ukraine’stability to continue the fight, – Stoltenberg was quoted as saying on the Alliance’s website.
The meeting was held at the level of NATO ambassadors, with Ukrainian Minister Rustem Umerov joining them via video link.
NATO said the meeting was convened by Ukraine and discussed the recent massive Russian airstrikes against Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
Diplomats in NATO circles told the newspaper that the meeting also discussed the Ukrainian operation in Kursk.
Minister Umerov informed about Russia’s latest air attacks, the combat situation in Donbas and the goals of the Kursk operation. He thanked the Allies for the recent pledges of assistance and the F-16s that are in action, – said a NATO diplomat who was not authorized to speak to the media.
Also, today, August 29, EU foreign ministers will gather in Brussels, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will also arrive. Dmytro Kuleba said that he plans to discuss with his European counterparts the permission for Kyiv to launch strikes with Western weapons deep into Russian territory.
