On September 4, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with 17 additional IRIS-T air defense systems by 2026, Radiosvoboda reports.
According to Bloomberg, the chancellor said that his country has already supplied Ukraine with seven IRIS-T systems, which have helped shoot down more than 250 Russian missiles, drones, and rockets. Four more of the 17 announced systems will be delivered by the end of 2024.
This shows that German support for Ukraine is not fading, – Scholz said.
On September 4, a German government official told Bloomberg that Ukraine will receive 12 medium-range and 12 shorter-range IRIS-T systems from Germany by 2026.
Other European countries also continue to show support for Ukraine. On September 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris signed a ten-year bilateral agreement on support and cooperation during Harris’s visit to Kyiv. The agreement stipulates that Ireland will continue its diplomatic efforts to promote the Ukrainian peace formula, maintain security, and provide non-lethal military assistance to Ukraine.
