All thermal power plants of the Ukrainian company Centrenergo have completely stopped generating electricity due to massive attacks by Russian forces. The company reported this on Saturday, November 8. The strike was the largest attack on the company since the beginning of the war.
“Less than a month has passed since the previous strike, and tonight the enemy simultaneously attacked our entire power generation. The power plants are on fire! Our thermal power plants are not military facilities. We do not produce weapons! We have civilian people working here. We have stopped … Currently, power generation is down to zero. Zero!”, Centrenergo wrote on Facebook.

Destruction of Energy Infrastructure
Centrenergo reported that Russian forces launched an unprecedented number of missiles and drones, targeting the same power plants that workers had restored after the 2024 attacks. On the night of November 8, they fired 45 missiles and 458 drones of various types. Although Ukrainian defenses intercepted most of the attacks, 26 missiles and 52 strike drones struck their targets, including a residential building in Dnipro.

The attack affected the Trypillia TPP in Kyiv region, the Zmiiv TPP in Kharkiv region, and the Vuhlehirsk TPP in Donetsk region, which is under occupation. Previous strikes had already completely halted operations at these stations.
Due to the damage to energy infrastructure, several regions were left without electricity, and emergency power outage schedules were implemented for industrial and residential consumers.
Gas Infrastructure Under Attack
On that night Russian forces also targeted gas facilities. The Kremenchuk community in Poltava region was left without gas supply. Massive attacks stop the operation of gas facilities and pose a direct risk to heating during the winter season.
“This is the ninth targeted strike on civilian gas infrastructure since the beginning of October.
Another vile attack by the Russians aimed at depriving Ukrainians of gas, heat and electricity in winter. Another act of terrorism,”, Serhii Koretskyi, chairman of the board of Naftogaz, noted.

Conclusions
Russia’s massive strikes show that Ukraine’s energy infrastructure remains a key target for the aggressor. Centrenergo stated that the company will continue to restore and repair the damaged plants. Ukraineʼs critical infrastructure requires additional protection, and international support in ensuring energy security remains vital.
Currently, regions are experiencing scheduled hourly power outages. Energy specialists are working to stabilize the situation as quickly as possible.
