07.10.2024

On October 7, the Prime Ministers of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Slovakia Robert Fico met. During the meeting, they will discuss cooperation in energy security and infrastructure projects.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal wrote on Telegram that today he would hold the second intergovernmental consultations with the government of Slovakia and Prime Minister Robert Fico.

We will focus on discussing the roadmap – a plan of joint activities that was signed during our first meeting. This includes cooperation in infrastructure projects, the economy, and energy security. A significant part of Ukraine’s electricity imports comes from Slovakia, which has never refused to help, – Shmyhal wrote.

He noted that the meeting is also planned to raise the issue of strengthening support for the peace plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, support for Ukraine’s membership in the EU, as well as demining of Ukrainian territories, humanitarian support and the restoration of Ukraine. And the continuation of close cooperation in defense procurement.

We look forward to signing bilateral documents between Ukraine and Slovakia as a continuation of our policy of “new pragmatism”, – added Denys Shmyhal.

Fico recently said that he would block Ukraine’s accession to NATO as long as he is in office. It is worth recalling that Fico also stated that he wants to restore normal relations with Russia after the war in Ukraine ends. He also noted that his government, whose term ends in 2027, will “take great care of friendly relations with Ukraine”.
