Political advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and member of parliament Balázs Orbán confirmed that he had sent proposals to EU leaders to resolve the war in Ukraine, Suspilne reports.

Orbán Balázs said this in an interview with Magyar Nemzet.

The prime minister wrote to the leaders of the European Council about the negotiations, the experience of the first phase of the peacekeeping mission and Hungarian proposals. If Europe wants peace and wants to have a decisive voice in settling the war and ending the bloodshed, it must now develop and implement a change of direction, – Balázs Orbán said.

Speaking about Orbán’s visits to Kyiv and Moscow and meetings with President Zelenskyy and Kremlin leader Putin, the advisor said: “From these trips it became clear that Ukraine and Russia are very determined to fight, and without the intervention of external mediators, we will unfortunately see very brutal destruction in the coming months”.

Today we are the only ones who can negotiate with all parties, – Orbán added.

“Peaceful” tour of Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán

On July 5, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrives in Moscow and meets with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. There, Orbán saw that “the positions of the parties to the war are far apart”, but promised to continue “peaceful efforts”.

On July 8, he met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing. After the meeting, Orbán said that China was a “key force” in creating conditions for peace between Ukraine and Russia.

And on July 1, Hungary began its six-month presidency of the European Union and will organize the work of the EU Council.

Commenting on Orbán’s trip, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry emphasized the only principle of peace –  “no agreements on Ukraine without Ukraine”.
