Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrived in the Chinese capital Beijing on a “peace mission”. He met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Babel reports.

Orbán posted a photo from the Beijing airport and wrote in X: “Peace mission 3.0 #Beijing”. After visiting Kyiv and Moscow, the Hungarian prime minister decided to visit China.

On the eve of his visit to China, Orbán announced new “unexpected meetings”, and Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called on “pro-war politicians to fasten their seat belts”.

After meeting with the Chinese leader, Orbán said that China is “a key force in creating conditions for peace in the Russian-Ukrainian war”.

We, Hungarians, are a peace-loving nation, people who strive for peace, balance and harmony. And China is one of the countries that acts most decisively, loudly and is committed to the cause of peace. Beijing is the third stop of the peacekeeping mission, – Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote after the meeting of the heads of state.

This is Orbán’s third stop on his “peacekeeping mission”. On July 2, he arrived in Kyiv, where he held talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It was his first visit to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war.

Orbán also arrived in Moscow on July 5, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. One of the key topics of this meeting was Russia’s war against Ukraine and its “peaceful settlement”. Orbán himself called his trip a “peace mission”. However, he did not stop at the visit to Moscow and went on to attend the summit, where unrecognized Northern Cyprus was an observer, for which he was criticized in the EU.

At the same time, the EU disavows Orbán’s visits. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that Orbán had not received any mandate from the EU Council, and his visits were solely within the framework of bilateral relations between Hungary and Russia.
