Since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost about 1.3 million military personnel killed and wounded.

A senior NATO official stated this during a briefing for journalists, DW reports.
NATO data
According to a representative of the North Atlantic Alliance, in 2025 alone the losses of the Russian army amounted to around 400,000. The figure refers to personnel killed and wounded.
“We are surprised by the share of fatalities in Russian losses. Russians are suffering disproportionately high losses; they are taking extremely heavy losses,” the NATO official said.
The Alliance уточнив that the total number of Russian soldiers killed stands at around 350,000. NATO links the high level of irreversible losses to the poor quality of battlefield medical care in the Russian army. This factor is considered especially significant.
Comparison with Ukrainian data
As of February 11, the General Staff of the AFU estimates the total personnel losses of the Russian army at more than 1.24 million. These figures include both killed and wounded troops. Over the past day, 820 Russian soldiers were eliminated, according to the Ukrainian side.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have destroyed 11,661 tanks. They have also eliminated more than 24,000 armored combat vehicles and 37,148 artillery systems. They have also destroyed 435 aircraft, 347 helicopters, and more than 130,000 operational-tactical-level drones.
Context
Earlier, NATO reported lower estimates of Russian losses—about 200,000 fewer. Thus, according to the Alliance, Russian army losses in 2025 rose sharply compared to previous years.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Le Monde that since the start of the full-scale invasion, 55,000 Ukrainian service members have been killed on the battlefield.
Previously, The Ukrainian Review wrote about what the complete loss of Donbas would mean for Ukraine. For Ukraine, this would not only mean the loss of part of its territory but also a strategic rupture – economic, security, and political. Donbas is one of the country’s key regions due to its concentration of natural resources, industrial infrastructure, and defensive lines formed since 2014.
