The government of Mali has announced that it is breaking off diplomatic relations with Ukraine because of its support for the actions of the Tuareg tribes, which recently defeated a convoy of Malian military and Russian mercenaries of the Wagner PMC, Radiosvoboda reports.
This is stated in a statement by the Malian authorities.
In the communiqué, the Malian government accuses Ukraine of supporting “terrorism in Africa, particularly in Mali”, violating the country’s sovereignty, “aggression against Mali”, and “violating international law, including the UN Charter”.
In addition, the Malian authorities point out that the representative of the GUR (main intelligence directorate – ed.), Andriy Yusov, “admitted Kyiv’s involvement” in the destruction of the Wagner unit by the rebels in late July.
The Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also summoned Ukraine’s Ambassador Yuriy Pyvovarov because of a post on the embassy’s Facebook page in which the Ukrainian diplomat allegedly expressed support for the Tuareg in Mali.
The transitional government stated that the actions of the Ukrainian authorities were a violation of Mali’s sovereignty, went beyond foreign intervention, were reprehensible in themselves, and grossly violated international law. Therefore, the communiqué decided to “immediately sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine”.
