Latvia has prepared 1,400 drones for shipment to Ukraine. This is the largest single delivery of drones from the Baltic country, Babel reports.
This was announced by Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds.
This delivery will be the final one – the Ministry of Defense of Latvia has completed the previously announced purchase of more than 2,500 drones from local manufacturers for Ukraine.
The Latvian Defense Minister emphasized that the country has transferred a total of 3,000 combat drones of various types and characteristics to Ukraine as part of the Drone Coalition, which it leads.
In early July, the Latvian Ministry of Defense announced that more than 2,500 combat drones of various types worth €4 million would be transferred to Ukraine. All these UAVs were manufactured by 7 Latvian companies. The first batch of 300 drones arrived a few days after the announcement, and the rest arrived gradually.
This year, Latvia is investing €20 million in the Drone Coalition for Ukraine, including more than €10 million for the purchase of drones from Latvian companies.
The Drone Coalition for Ukraine was launched on February 17, 2024, as part of the work of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense (Ramstein format). The initiative was co-lead by Latvia and the United Kingdom. Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Estonia, Canada, and the Netherlands also joined the coalition, bringing the total number of countries in the coalition to 14.
