Kadyrov’s Health Crisis: Kremlin Searches for New Chechen Leader

11.01.2026

The Kremlin has reportedly begun searching for a successor to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov due to a life-threatening health condition. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Kadyrov’s kidneys have failed, forcing Moscow to urgently consider new candidates for the position. This situation creates significant risks for the stability of Putin’s regime in the Caucasus and demands immediate action from Moscow.

Critical Condition and Hospitalization

According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, Ramzan Kadyrov is currently hospitalized in Grozny. Sources indicate that his health has declined significantly following total kidney failure. He is currently undergoing dialysis treatment with no clear prognosis for recovery. Members of his influential family clan, including those arriving from abroad, have gathered at the hospital. This underscores the severity of the situation, as medical experts remain silent regarding his chances of returning to office.

Kadyrov’s Threats and Reaction to Zelenskyy

Despite reports of his failing health, Kadyrov continues his aggressive rhetoric. Recently, he called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “bandit” and threatened Ukrainians with the “loss of their nation.” The Chechen leader also announced “brutal revenge” for attacks on military targets in Grozny, promising strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure.

At the same time, Kadyrov was visibly shocked by Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement regarding the possibility of his capture by American special forces. The Ukrainian President suggested that such a move by the U.S. could serve as leverage to pressure Putin into ending the war. The Kremlin’s proxy called this a “humiliating” request, though experts note his obvious concern following successful U.S. operations in other countries.

Potential Successors for the Post

As Kadyrov becomes unable to perform his duties, the Kremlin is actively vetting several figures to replace him. The primary contenders include Magomed Daudov and Apti Alaudinov. There is also significant discussion regarding his eldest son, 20-year-old Akhmat Kadyrov, who was recently appointed as deputy head of the republic’s government. Moscow aims to choose a loyal and convenient figure to prevent instability in Chechnya amidst the ongoing war against Ukraine.

Conclusion

A potential change in Chechnya’s leadership is occurring at a critical moment for the Russian power hierarchy. The loss of Putin’s key ally in the Caucasus could trigger an internal power struggle between Chechen clans. This forces the Kremlin to accelerate the power transition process, attempting to maintain control over the region through trusted individuals from Kadyrov’s inner circle. Future developments will depend on the successor’s ability to keep the security forces under Moscow’s full control.
