Hungary has put forward a list of 11 requirements for Ukraine in order to unblock Kyiv’s further path to join the European Union.

This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda, Hromadske informs.

Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, during a speech at a conference on June 25, said that Budapest had raised 11 issues aimed at strengthening the protection of the rights of national minorities in Ukraine. She did not disclose what these points were.

Stefanishyna added that Ukraine is ready to strengthen the protection of national minority rights and implement the steps “agreed upon in the framework of dialogue and on the basis of relevant agreements with Hungary, in good faith and as a contribution to mutual understanding, trust and respect”.

Yevropeiska Pravda claims to have reviewed the documents on the Hungarian ultimatum with its European colleagues.

Half of the 11 points are in the “educational block”. Most of the points are “acceptable,” the journalists note. However, there are some of them:

  • Recognizing schools with even one Hungarian class as Hungarian schools;
  • Abolishing the rule on what percentage of Hungarians should live in a certain territory to recognize it as Hungarian.
  • Amend the electoral law to ensure Hungarian representation in the Verkhovna Rada.
  • Removing the requirement for public officials to know the state language, allowing them to use Hungarian.
