France is preparing a new large-scale military aid package for Ukraine. Paris will provide the Ukrainian Air Force with an additional batch of Mirage 2000-5 multi-role fighter jets.

Alongside the aircraft, the Ukrainian military will receive critical ammunition for air defense systems and long-range strike capabilities. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced these developments following discussions with his French counterpart, Catherine Vautrin.
Strengthening Air Defense and Aviation
Mykhailo Fedorov confirmed assurances regarding the rapid delivery of this equipment. The new support package includes ammunition for SAMP/T and Crotale anti-aircraft missile systems. These systems remain vital for intercepting Russian cruise missiles and drones. Furthermore, France will supply French-made missiles. These weapons allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike enemy logistics in the rear effectively.
The arrival of additional Mirage 2000-5 jets marks a significant stage in bilateral cooperation. These aircraft will substantially expand Ukraine’s control over its airspace. The ministers also discussed deepening cooperation in data sharing and joint intelligence analytics. Catherine Vautrin stressed that Ukraine can rely on France to achieve a just peace and establish reliable security guarantees.

Combating the Shadow Fleet and Sanctions Policy
The dialogue also focused on combating the Russian “shadow fleet.” Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized the importance of sanction pressure on illegal oil exports. Restricting enemy resources directly reduces Russia’s ability to finance its full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
“I noted France’s principled position on limiting the activities of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet.’ Reducing the enemy’s resources is a key factor in decreasing its ability to finance the war,” the Ukrainian Defense Minister summarized.

Previously, both nations agreed on training programs for Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel at French bases. Additionally, Paris is actively developing cooperation with Kyiv in the field of strike drone technology.
Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that 14 European countries blocked Russia’s shadow fleet in the Baltic Sea.
Moreover, on January 27, Russia attacked Ukraine using missiles and drones, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced air defense.
