Aid to Ukraine

Trump made the remarks during a press briefing while speaking to journalists. He said the United States should not have gotten involved in the war in Ukraine.

“ We didn’t have to go into Ukraine. Ukraine’s thousands of miles away across the ocean,” Trump said.

According to him, the previous administration spent $350 billion supporting Ukraine without getting anything in return. Trump described the former US president as “a stupid individual.” He also claimed that a significant amount of US ammunition had been sent to Kyiv, forcing the United States to ramp up domestic production.

Iran and the Strait of Hormuz

Trump said the United States plans to complete its operation against Iran in the near future.

“We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next 2–3 weeks. We are going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong,” he said.

According to Trump, US strategic objectives in Iran are “nearing completion.” He warned that if no deal is reached, Washington will carry out simultaneous strikes on all Iranian power plants.

At the same time, Trump noted that the US has not yet targeted Iran’s oil infrastructure, although it is “the easiest target of all.” Such strikes, he said, could deprive the country of any chance of recovery. Trump also highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of global oil supplies passes. He said countries receiving oil via the route must “take care” of it.

The US president also thanked Washington’s Middle Eastern allies, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain, assuring that the United States “will not let them get hurt.”

Context

Trump recently said the United States could withdraw from NATO. According to CNN, the alliance is not overly concerned by these threats.

An unnamed European official said similar statements have been made before, comparing them to “Groundhog Day.” However, diplomats acknowledge that such signals cannot be fully ignored, as Trump can make decisions quickly, leaving some allies concerned.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz urged people to “keep a cool head,” saying:

“There is no NATO without the USA, but there are no strong United States without allies either.”

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said any threat of a US withdrawal from NATO is “harmful.” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described NATO as “single most effective military alliance the world has ever seen.”

Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that Trump could end the war against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully reopened for oil and gas transit.
