Belgium to allocate €150 million for Ukraine’s reconstruction

17.07.2024

Belgium will allocate €150 million for reconstruction projects in Ukraine. The funds will be used, in particular, to restore energy and social infrastructure in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, Babel writes.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

The Ukrainian prime minister and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo signed the agreement that launches these projects during an online meeting. It will simplify the implementation of joint programs and projects between the two countries, as well as contribute to the recovery and economic and social development of Ukraine.

Also, under this agreement, the Belgian development agency Enabel will open a representative office in Ukraine.

The Belgian news agency Belga writes that the first tranche of €20 million will be used to restore energy facilities in Kyiv, particularly in hospitals, as winter approaches. Comfortable shelters will also be set up in schools across Ukraine.

Belgium unwaveringly supports Ukraine in the war against Russian aggression. In May 2024, Ukraine and Belgium signed a bilateral security agreement for the next 10 years. According to the agreement, this year Ukraine will receive at least €977 million in military aid from Belgium.

The agreement, in particular, specifies the number of military aircraft to be provided to Ukraine by 2028 – 30 F-16 fighters. The first fighters are to be delivered this year.
