Germany may halve military aid to Ukraine in 2025 – Reuters

17.07.2024

In 2025, Germany plans to halve its military aid to Ukraine. The draft budget provides for 4 billion euros instead of 8 billion euros in 2024, Espreso informs.

This was reported Reuters.

According to the publication, Germany hopes that Ukraine will be able to meet most of its military needs with $50 billion in proceeds from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation, which the G7 countries agreed to allocate to Ukraine.

Despite the reduction in military aid to Ukraine, Germany will meet NATO’s target of 2% of GDP defense spending in 2025, which will amount to 75.3 billion euros, the publication reports.

It is noted that the budget for 2025 will contain medium-term financial planning until 2028, when the special fund for the armed forces, which is necessary to achieve NATO’s minimum spending goals, is due to expire.

June 13 German Finance Minister Christian Lindner confirms that the G7 countries have agreed to allocate $50 billion to Ukraine from the proceeds of Russia’s frozen assets.

Ukraine can also receive a $3.3 billion loan from Japan, using the interest on the profits from frozen Russian assets.
