The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Sweden have allocated €420 million to purchase American weaponry for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This funding is part of the international PURL initiative. These resources will provide Ukraine with essential equipment and ammunition during the full-scale war. Additionally, at the Contact Group meeting, partners announced a massive $35 billion aid package for the upcoming year.

The Ministry of Defence of the Netherlands reports on the PURL initiative.
“Ukraine is in dire need of strengthened combat capabilities. Therefore, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Sweden are providing assistance through the supply of American weapons, equipment, and ammunition. This refers to military support within the PURL initiative,” the Ministry stated.
The total value of weaponry under PURL exceeds $500 million. The Netherlands contributed approximately €90 million to this joint fund. Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans emphasized that air defense support is critical due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure during the harsh winter.

During the Contact Group meeting in Brussels, UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced a commitment to provide $35 billion in military aid to Ukraine. These resources are intended to be pivotal for securing peace and ending the war in 2026. Healey stressed that the allies’ mission is to support Ukraine’s current fight and ensure future security.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte noted that Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov informed the partners about the current situation in Ukraine and outlined the needs for urgent support, and “NATO and allies continue to provide this support.”

Rutte also reported that partners are meeting the vast majority of Ukraine’s air defense needs. Specifically, Germany is ready to provide five additional PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. This initiative will proceed if other member countries collectively donate 30 more missiles. Notably, Sweden and Denmark previously allocated €246 million for Tridon Mk2 anti-aircraft systems.
Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that the United Kingdom plans to seize a tanker from Russia’s shadow fleet to increase economic pressure on the Kremlin.
