Zelenskyy: Ukraine is working to implement joint missile defense with NATO countries

09.08.2024

Ukraine is working to ensure that neighboring NATO countries help it shoot down Russian missiles and drones, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a new video address, Radiosvoboda reports.

According to the President of Ukraine, on August 8, he held a meeting with internationals from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the military, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and officials from the Presidential Office. The main topic of discussion was cooperation with NATO countries, including neighbors in the region that are part of the Alliance.

He noted that “together with our NATO neighbors, we can add more security and stability to the region and to the whole of Europe. Therefore, practical steps are needed”.

Today (August 8 – ed.) we discussed our joint capabilities to defend against attacks by Russian missiles and drones –  we are working on implementation, – Zelenskyy added.

The Russian military regularly attacks Ukrainian regions with various types of weapons – strike UAVs, missiles, KABs, MLRS – on a regular basis.

Russia’s leadership denies that the Russian army, during a full-scale war, conducts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of Ukrainian cities and villages, killing civilians and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.

The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes of the Russian Federation and emphasize that they are of a targeted nature.
