President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 25 before presenting a victory plan to US President Joe Biden amid Russia’s continuing full-scale invasion.
This was reported by Radio Svoboda.
On September 24, the President of Ukraine said, speaking at the UN Security Council, that Russia can only be “forced” to peace. He also condemned Iran and North Korea as “accomplices” who helped Moscow by providing weapons that it used to attack Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Nobel laureate and human rights activist Oleksandra Matviichuk
said the day before that, an open letter was sent to the UN Secretary-General to suspend Russia’s membership in the UN General Assembly.
In addition to Ukrainian organizations, this letter was signed by colleagues from Latin America. Among them are more than 20 former foreign ministers and many well-known human rights defenders, most of whom held important positions within the Inter-American Human Rights System or the UN itself, – the head of the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties wrote on Facebook.
During his week-long visit to the United States, the President of Ukraine has been holding intensive meetings and making speeches calling on Washington to continue its decisive support for Ukraine.
Details of Zelenskyy’s victory plan, which he is to discuss with Biden on September 26, remain unknown, but he has said that it will be a “bridge” to ending the war.
Some media outlets report that the plan will include increased US military and financial support and security guarantees, as well as further sanctions against Russia.
The head of Zelenskyy’s office, Andriy Yermak, said that the main security guarantee Kyiv wants is NATO membership, a demand that Kyiv has been making for years but which the West, including Washington, has been skeptical of.
Zelenskyy also indicated that he would again ask for permission to use long-range missiles to strike military targets deep inside Russia, a move that is divisive among Ukraine’s allies.
In addition to meeting with Biden on June 26, Zelenskyy is also scheduled to hold talks with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. It was planned that Zelenskyy would also hold a similar meeting with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. However, according to media reports, a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump has not been scheduled.
