On September 26, U.S. President Joseph Biden hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his administration. The US leader promised to accelerate funding for Ukraine until the end of his term. Zelenskyy told Biden about the victory plan, and the two countries will agree on the details of the plan, Suspilne reports.
According to Reuters, Zelenskyy spoke with President Biden about Ukraine’s Victory Plan in the war against Russia, as planned.
Today we are preparing to agree on the details to strengthen this plan, coordinate our positions, and our teams will work together to ensure the implementation of our next steps, – the President of Ukraine added.
According to Biden, the Victory Plan is “exactly what we will discuss. How Ukraine can prevail in this conflict”. The US President emphasized two main points in this context:
First, in his opinion, the United States should strengthen Ukraine’s position at the front and in future negotiations.
That is why I am pleased to announce today a new $2.4 billion assistance package. I have also instructed the Pentagon to raise all remaining funds for assistance through the end of my [presidential] term on January 20 [2025], – Biden explained. We are talking about a military aid package for Ukraine totaling $7.9 billion.
Second, we are looking at how to help Ukraine in the longer term. As we stated at the summit in Washington, we are helping Ukraine on its path to NATO and the EU, and to continue to implement reforms to fight corruption and strengthen democracy, – Joseph Biden said.
According to Biden, partners need to be confident that Ukraine has effective capabilities to withstand future Russian aggression.
These two elements are critical to ending this war. Let me be clear: Russia will not win the war, Ukraine will win, and we will stand with you every step of the way, – Biden concluded.
Following the discussion with the American president, Zelenskyy thanked him for his “strong support for decisions that help protect Ukraine and Ukrainians”.
He recalled the 26 bilateral security agreements Ukraine has with international partners based on the G7 security declaration. In particular, he said that the security agreement with the United States is very important – Kyiv will fully implement it.
And it is very important that we share a common vision of Ukraine’s security future in the EU and NATO. Ukraine is implementing an unprecedented number of reforms on this path, – Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy also met with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
