President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that F-16 aircraft are already in Ukraine and performing tasks.
He said this during a conference dedicated to the Air Force Day on Sunday, August 4, Suspilne reports.
Zelenskyy did not specify what tasks the fighters are performing. He added that the number of aircraft and pilots is currently insufficient.
F-16s are in Ukraine. We have ensured this, I am proud of all our guys who are mastering these aircraft and have already started using them for our country. I thank our team for this important result, I thank our partners who are really helping us with F-16s and the first countries that accepted our request for the aircraft. Thank you, Denmark, the Netherlands, the United States and all our partners, we appreciate your support, – Zelenskyy said.
When asked what tasks the F-16s perform and how many of them, Zelenskyy said he was not authorized to comment on this. In any case, the partners know the number, the president added.
So far, the number that Ukraine has and the number of pilots who have already been trained is not enough. The positive thing is that our guys are now studying. Everything we are working on, I believe that our partners will find an opportunity to expand it – a training and exercise platform for our pilots and engineers, – the president said.
On July 31, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis reports on social media platform X that Ukraine has already received F-16 fighter jets as part of international assistance from NATO allies.
