The question of when is Christmas in Ukraine has recently become quite relevant due to the transition to new calendar systems. It is known that Christmas is one of the biggest Christian holidays. Traditionally in Ukraine, it was celebrated on January 7 according to the Julian calendar, but more and more Ukrainians are celebrating it on December 25 according to the Gregorian style, which is the basis of the world calendar.
As you know, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church used to follow the Julian calendar, so most believers celebrated Christmas on January 7. However, in 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a law that made December 25, the day when Christmas is celebrated in most countries, an official day off.

Since then, Ukrainians have been able to choose when to celebrate Christmas, as both dates are officially recognized holidays.
Over time, some Ukrainian churches switched to the Gregorian calendar and began celebrating Christmas with most countries.

And Ukrainians increasingly began to celebrate Christmas on December 25. This changes the answer to the question “when is Christmas in Ukraine?” as more families celebrate the holiday according to the Gregorian calendar.
However, traditions related to rituals and caroling remain relevant for both dates. Festive dinners, symbolic dishes such as kutia and uzvar, as well as carols and shchedrivkas are an important part of Ukrainian culture that do not depend on the calendar date of the celebration.

However, the issue of holiday dates is still open and depends on personal views and choices.
Therefore, Ukrainians have the opportunity to celebrate Christmas twice – on December 25 and January 7.
