US President Joe Biden has decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race for the same reason he wanted to become president four years ago-to preserve democracy and defeat Donald Trump, Babel writes.
He said this in an interview with the CBS Sunday Morning program.
According to him, he and Trump were neck and neck. However, a CBS News poll on July 18 (the last night of the Republican National Convention) showed that Trump rose by 5 points nationally – he gained 52% and Biden gained 47%.
A lot of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought I was going to hurt them in the race. That’s what happened, – Biden emphasized.
He made the decision to withdraw from the race in a narrow circle of people with his wife, Jill Biden, while recovering from COVID-19.
In the interview, he also reiterated that he considers Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump a threat to the United States and democracy.
