The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Russia and Ukraine to “adhere to de-escalation” amid the operation in the Kursk region of Russia, Hromadske reports.
This is stated in a statement by the Foreign Ministry. Thus, Beijing said that China “noticed the development” of the situation.
China’s position on the Ukrainian issue is consistent and clear. The Chinese side calls on all parties to adhere to the three principles of de-escalation, namely, the prohibition of the expansion of the battlefield, the escalation of hostilities and the incitement of fire by any party, –the ministry said.
China said it would continue to communicate with the international community “to play a constructive role in the political settlement of the crisis”.
Earlier, it became known that the Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova sent an appeal to the UN High Commissioner demanding to “condemn terrorism on the part of Ukraine” amid the advances in the Kursk region.
Prior to that, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq called on “all parties concerned to act responsibly and ensure the protection of civilians”.
In turn, European Commission Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Peter Stano emphasized that, according to international law, Ukraine “has the legitimate right to defend itself, including by striking the aggressor on its territory”.
In addition, the US Department of Defense does not believe that the operation of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of Russia is an escalation. And IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called on the parties to “maximum restraint” due to military activity near the Kursk nuclear power plant. He assured that the IAEA is “monitoring the situation”.
