Ukrainian Forces Debunk Russian Claims of Counteroffensive

09.02.2026

Russian propagandists are spreading false reports about a supposed large-scale Ukrainian counteroffensive on the border of the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The Southern Defense Forces officially denied these claims and clarified the actual situation on the battlefield. Ukrainian defenders only neutralized Russian sabotage groups that attempted to enter the gray zone.

The spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, reported this to RBC-Ukraine. He stated that Russian occupiers are using infiltration tactics with small units. Russian groups briefly entered the village of Ternuvate, but Ukrainian soldiers quickly eliminated them.

“They were there for only a few hours before they were destroyed by our military,” the spokesperson noted.

The Truth About the Front Line

Russian Z-bloggers publish distorted maps of military operations to justify their failures. They claim progress toward Pokrovske, even though the actual contact line remains much further away. The occupiers try to present the presence of their sabotage groups as control over territories, including the villages of Nechaivka, Andriivka, and Oleksiivka. However, General Staff reports confirm that Ternuvate and Dobropillia remain under the full control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to Voloshyn, the invaders are at least 15 kilometers from the mentioned settlement of Pokrovske. Official Defense Forces channels have released videos confirming the destruction of enemy groups near Ternuvate. These records show the elimination of enemy assault units directly near the settlement road signs.

Currently, the Ukrainian military conducts up to twenty reconnaissance and search operations daily. These actions focus strictly on detecting and neutralizing Russian saboteurs. From a military perspective, such maneuvers do not constitute a counteroffensive. However, the situation in eastern Ukraine remains tense due to constant pressure in the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka directions.
