Ukrainian Armed Forces confirm withdrawal from Vuhledar

The high command has authorized the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from Vuhledar. This is reported by Suspilne.

It is known that the decision was made in order to save the lives of the military and military equipment, to take a position for further actions.

This was reported by Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group of Troops and the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Having suffered numerous losses as a result of prolonged fighting, the enemy did not give up trying to capture Vuhledar. In an attempt to take control of the city at any cost, he managed to send reserves to conduct flanking attacks that depleted the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result of the enemy’s actions, there was a threat of encirclement of the city, – the Khortytsia group noted. 

What is known about the battle for Vuhledar and the situation in the city

Currently, there are 107 people in Vuhledar who categorically refused to leave. This was reported by Serhiy Novikov, the head of the Vuhledar city military administration, to Suspilne on September 24. Before the full-scale war, the city was home to 15,000 people. According to him, people live in basements. The number of civilians in the city as of October 1 has not changed: the head of the military administration said the same number, reminding that children were evacuated from the city long ago.

On September 24, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalenko, said that Russian troops had destroyed the town of Vuhledar in Donetsk region and were trying to move from the flanks. 

On October 1, in the afternoon, the head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Vadym Filashkin, said that Russian troops were “almost in the center of the city.”

As of the evening of October 1, some parts of Vuhledar were under the control of the Defense Forces, but most of the city was under Russian control.
